On the letter, there is an error. It says 'Monday 8th July' is the date of Honk but this is wrong. Honk is on Friday 8th July.
Year 2 have the opportunity to go to Honk! the musical. Please see attached letter for more information.
We've had a very busy week! Here's what we've got up to.
We've been doing SATs tests (quiz time) every day in the morning. Everyone is doing so well!
We came up with a class story together, based on The Disgusting Sandwich. Next week, we will be inventing our own stories.
This week we have been looking at quarter and half turns, as well as clockwise and anticlockwise. It's been quite tricky. Next week, we will be looking at length and height.
This half term is all about famous scientists and inventors. This week we looked at germs and Louis Pasteur. We discussed the importance of hand washing and came up with a superhero to help children wash their hands.
Learning Adventure / Geography
We learned all about the 'Dia De Los Muertos' (Day Of The Dead). We looked at: offerings, marigold flowers leading the dead back home, decorating cemeteries, festive food, and more.
This week we focused on running - it was very tiring! We had relay races, partner runs, and more.
* We will be starting 'show and tell' next week (Friday 13th May). Each week we will choose 2 children to bring something in to show the class. We will be going in alphabetical order, starting with the first 2 children on the register. These children have been told they're bringing something in.
* Parents are invited to come in at 9am on Wednesday 18th May for interviews. These will be for our biographies in class. Please let us know if you can make it. It will likely take around 30 minutes but there will be opportunity to look through students' books as well.

I hope you’ve all had a fun and well rested half term. On the left and below is a picture of our chicks and tadpoles - they've grown so much! We have lots of exciting things planned for this half term. Here is some of what we’ll be doing.
Our topic this half term will be all about Mexico!
We will starting our English learning about ‘The Disgusting Sandwich’. This is a story that we will be basing our own stories on.
This half term we will be learning about 'length and height' and 'position and direction'. We will also continue to work on arithmetic, including our weekly times table tests.
We will be doing athletic skills, including jumping, throwing, running and more. PE will continue to be on Tuesdays so can children please come in their PE kits for these days. We will also continue with ‘Fit Fridays’.
The KS1 SATs will be taking place in May. The assessments will be on spelling, grammar, reading, maths arithmetic and maths reasoning. Please ask if you have any questions about these.
We are looking at the suffixes -ment, -ness and -ful next week.
enjoyment sadness careful playful plainness argument merriment happiness plentiful cheerful
We're very lucky to say that our chicks in 2W have hatched over the weekend. This morning, we've spent time learning about the life cycle of a hen in science and observing the chicks.
It's not too long now until the holidays and the end of term! Here's what we've got up to.
Most of the instructions are finished now and we're focusing on Spelling and Grammar (SPaG). In particular, we're looking at different sentence types (statements, questions, exclamations and commands).
Everyone has done really well with their arithmetic. As a class, we're now focusing on dividing and recognising symbols (e.g. + and -). This is really tripping a few children up! We are also continuing to look at fractions (in particular, halves, quarters and thirds).
We have continued to look at plants and some of our sunflowers are growing really nicely.
This week we focused on mixing primary colours to make secondary colours. Lots of the children made pink, orange and green - well done!
We have continued to learn the 'Rainbow Connection' song. If you want to have a practice at home, there is a link here: https://kids.niehs.nih.gov/games/songs/movies/rainbow-connection/index.htm
Everyone is getting so much better at their 'fancy writing'. Lots of children are starting to join up whole words - this is really fantastic! This week we focused on the capital and lowercase of 'k'.
We are continuing to look at Year 2 common exception words. We will be doing another quiz next week. Keep practicing 2W - we've seen a big improvement already!
Trip to Paignton Zoo - As part of our learning about different countries, we have booked a trip to Paignton Zoo on Thursday 9th June. Paignton Zoo is where our class has sponsored a red panda. More information will follow closer to the time and a letter has been sent home. The trip will cost in and around £15.
We've been up to lots of exciting things in class.
We have been learning all about instructions. So far we have learned about how to make instructions on popcorn and planting sunflower seeds. Next week, the children will choose their own topic to write instructions on.
We have finished our topic on 2D and 3D shapes. Everyone did really well on this! This week we are starting fractions. They're very tricky but we've got pizza and chocolate to help us learn them. We are really focusing on equal/unequal, halves, quarters and thirds.
We have lots of things growing at the moment! Our tadpoles are doing well, some of them have started getting legs. The chicken eggs are in the incubator we have 2 weeks more to go before we (hopefully) will have some hatching. We've also started doing Mrs Spencer's sunflower growing competition. Watch this space!
We have been looking at oil pastels and chalk on black paper. This week we are doing our final designs, based on Peter Thorpe (see the picture above).
We have been really focusing on our times tables, number bonds and telling the time. Everyone is getting much better at this and we've been very impressed by how many children have moved onto their 5, 10 and 3 times tables. Keep it up 2W!
Mr Warrick is continuing to teach music in Year 2. We have been looking at timbre and pitch.
Please continue to learn the Year 2 common exception words. These will really help make the children's writing.
Good afternoon everyone,
There were a few queries about spellings. In class, we will be focusing on 'Year 2 common exception words' for the next few weeks. These are attached below. The challenge for the class is to learn all of these by the end of this half term. We will then have a test to see how well children have done.
In particular, these are the spellings that the children are finding tricky:
Mr, Mrs, Christmas (most children forgot the capital letters)
people, beautiful, pretty
move, prove, improve
Welcome back 2W!
I hope you're feeling refreshed after half term break. Here is some of the exciting things we've got planned for this half term:
We will be looking at poetry and especially at 'The Magic Box' by Kit Wright. We will also finishing off our persuasive letters from before the holidays.
We will be exploring 2D and 3D shapes and their properties. We will also continue to look at times tables and improve our arithmetic. This includes: counting in twos, threes, fives and tens knowing both the multiplication and division facts for the twos, fives and tens multiplication tables; working out a number that is one more or one less, number bonds to ten and twenty, adding and subtracting two-digit numbers, halving and doubling numbers.
We will be focusing on plants, including growing some of our own. We will also continue to be watching our frogspawn and getting chicken eggs.
We will be launching our 'karate reading' - watch this space for more information!
We're continuing to explore different artwork, including oil pastels and clay.
We will be focusing on 'Invasion Games'. This includes how to move, throw, catch, attack and defend. We will be doing our PE lessons on Tuesday afternoons as normal. We have finished cricket now, so can children please come in on Fridays in normal school uniform and trainers. We will still continue with our 'Fit Friday'.
We will be starting to look at programming on the iPads, as well as creating digital artwork.
See spellings set for over the half term. New spellings will be out on Friday.
* World book day is on Thursday 3rd March. The theme is 'heroes'.
