This week has been National Anti-Bullying Week – the theme this year is Reach Out.
In assembly this week we asked and discussed these questions:
• What is bullying?
• What is a bystander?
• What can we do about it?
Using our values of curiosity and kindness we reached the consensus that speaking to someone is always the best approach. This could be to our friends, families, trusted adults at school. It could also be speaking directly to someone who we think is bullying or is experiencing bullying. The communication of our thoughts and feelings is key to the solution! At St Cleer we have agreed to keep our eyes open, our ears available and our hands reaching out to support as best we can. There will always be someone willing to help, so remember to reach out!
Remembrance Day (also known as Poppy Day owing to the tradition of wearing a remembrance poppy) is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth member states since the end of the First World War to honour armed forces members who have died in the line of duty.
Today in Remembrance assembly we marked 2 minutes silence and remembered those in our lives who have been affected by war.
I remembered Arthur and Annie's Great-Grandad Sergeant Major D Otter - who held onto that smile for all of his life in spite of having to live through experiences he could never have anticipated.
We remember them for they gave their today for our tomorrow.
I am a thousand winds that blow;
I am the diamond glints on the snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain;
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft star that shines at night.

In assemblies this half term we are talking to each other about our cultural experiences of gender. We are reading books and asking questions about the language we use and how we feel as individuals. We have explored some videos to support our discussion and are enjoying listening to the views of other young people on this issue across the world. What do you think?
Year 6K thoroughly enjoyed a trip to Brunel - another of our academy schools - to explore all thing scientific! The theories of friction and rockets were tested and the children deepened their understanding of applying heat and friction in STEM based workplaces.
Thank you to Brunel for hosting and we hope for scientists of the future.
At St Cleer we value being able to think differently - as part of Dyslexia Awareness week we looked at Miles' video below. Together as a school we use our school values to break through any barriers to do the very best we can for ourselves and each other.
Today we welcomed Serena from the Cystic Fibrosis Trust who delivered a very informative assembly for us all. We learned a lot about what it is like to live with CF and how we can understand it more. We look forward to another #WearYellowtoSchool day in June 2023! Watch the video here to find out more about Cystic Fibrosis and how those who live with it learn to live healthy and active lives!
It doesn't seem so long since we were enjoying our Jubilee picnic. Today at school we joined together to mark a momentous time in our Modern History. The children and staff at St Cleer shared their memories and thoughts of Queen Elizabeth II. As we move from the Elizabethan era to the Caroleon era things will change, but the sense of pride and identity in our community is strong and lives through our school values.
