DAILY EXERCISE AIDS LEARNING
At St Cleer Academy we believe that daily physical exercise is very important as an aid to learning: Healthy Body- Healthy Mind.
We have started aiming for every child- and staff member!- to run a Mile a Day.
Our field is beautiful, but often wet and muddy.
We have a Working Party of parents aiming to raise £12,900 for a purpose built mile track to run around the edge of our grounds. Any support with this would be most welcome.
At St Cleer Primary Academy, we believe that children are motivated and their learning enhanced by outside visitors and visits.
This term we have had visits from South West Water to lead experiments and investigative workshops into the science of water filteration. Workshops with the younger children, seen here, also used creative art activities to explore the life-giving qualities of water.
Children in Year 6 have had visits from a professional musician and our rehearsals are culminating in a Songfest Concert in Plymouth Pavilions on 2nd April. What an experience to be part of a 100 strong Choir with a professional band of musicians in such an impressive Arena! Other visits have included visits to the Fire Station and a Farm and Country Day at the Royal Cornwall Showground. These visits and visitors bring learning alive and they are experiences the children will never forget.
We believe strongly in the British Value of Democracy. You can see Democracy in action every week during our Pupil Council meetings. The meetings are chaired by George and Madison, our secretary, types the Agenda and the minutes.
This term we have discussed:
- Our school values
- Positive behaviour, with practical ideas of how we can improve lunchtimes
- Ideas for fundraising
- Questions to ask the prospective new headteacher at interview
All the children (and staff, of course!) enjoy dressing up at Academy, and we have had plenty of opportunities this term.
The whole school wrote their own creative stories around the Tale of Cinderella, and all came to school as a character from the story. So we had Cinderellas in rags, Cinderellas dressed for the Ball, lots of guests at the Ball, the Ugly Sisters (Boo!) - and, of course, the Prince himself.
Then we had World Book Day when we all came as a Book Character, and Red Nose Day to raise funds for children less fortunate than ourselves.
St Cleer School believes in educating the whole child, and we know that children learn best when they are having fun!
We are almost at Half Term already - how time flies! It has been a good start to 2019. We are all enjoying our whole school topic: Dream, Design, Do.
This Topic encapsulates the Values we share as one of the Bridge family of schools:
- be creative
- be determined
- be responsible
- be curious
- be excellent
- be enthusiastic
Children from St Cleer are joining with the other Bridge schools just after half term to explore what these values really mean for us - Watch this space!
All these values were shown by the teams that took part in the Youth Speaks competition, an annual event organised by the Rotary Club. The winning team here spoke at the semi-finals in Devonport High School, Plymouth. They spoke about caring for endangered animals, in particular koalas. Their creativity, determination and enthusiasm held the attention and respect of a packed tiered lecture hall. Public speaking is such an important life skill. Well done girls!
