At St Cleer Primary we recognise that bullying is:
Physically, emotionally, socially harmful
Reoccurring
Intentional
As a school we use our school values to support how we work and speak with each other - underpinned by kindness. Each year we ask a selection of Year 6 pupils to support in the playground when peer relationships needs support and where we keep a look out for bullying so we can tackle it together. Well done to each of the students who submitted their thoughts on the role and received their ambassador badges in assembly. Let's work together to support each other so that bullying is something we tackle with kindness so we can work and play together so that we flourish.
Thank you so much to one of our Governors Kate and the PTA for helping the school to bring Tiny Travels to St Cleer on Monday! Tiny Travels are a company that actively promote and expose children to different cultures and experiences so that they have a greater understanding, tolerance and empathy for world wide experiences. All of our Early Years children explored the resources including instruments, objects of interest and foods! They really are wonderful young people to work with. They certainly displayed our school value of curiosity across the session.
You can find our more about Tiny Travels and what they do here: https://www.tinytravels.co.uk/
Living memories move to past memories and eventually move into History. Whoever you may take time to remember this weekend we hope that you remember with kindness and learn lessons from the past that can help us form a kinder today and a brighter future. Today in assembly I took the time to remember Douglas Otter (my children's great grandfather) - we remembered his words of advice to 'meet everyone with a smile'. We hope that others also meet you with a smile in your learning and relationships.
We also took the time to reflect on our school values and the British values. We talked about the importance of individual liberty interwoven with tolerance of each other even when we disagree. When we meet others with an open mind, heart and kindness all things are possible.
Well done to our year 3 and 4 children who shared their Remembrance poems with us - we are very proud of your empathy and understanding.
Thank you so much to the PTA for their classroom gifts this week which included bean bags, tents and fish! The children took great care setting up the tanks, getting the environment just right for the new arrivals. Some have already been named and they are enjoying being part of our lessons! Thank you to all involved for making it happen.
Thank you so much for joining us in St Cleer church today to celebrate Harvest and support Liskeard Food Bank. Running club and 2 very supportive parents completed the daily mile at 9am and everyone else completed it across the morning. It was a lovely reminder about how movement brings joy and we are here together as a community to support each other. It takes great strength to ask for help and it is great to have such a supportive community ready and waiting to offer help when it's needed! Thank you!
In this week's assembly we look at the incredible achievements of some incredible people of black heritage. Martin Luther King, Simone Biles and Fanny Eaton just to mention a few. At St Cleer we are a vibrant tapestry of experiences and our family culture and experiences are shared and celebrated - we are all equally valued and have different things to offer just by being ourselves.
It is only by meeting people with light and love that we can create a world where we all thrive. Martin Luther King said it best when he said: "Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that."
Congratulations to our democratically voted Team Captains this year. We thoroughly enjoyed your videos and well done for gaining a majority vote! A perfect opportunity for the school to explore the British Value of Democracy and Rule of the Law in a school context. We look forward to working with you all this year and hearing some of your fantastic Team ideas! Go Kilmar! Go Sharptor! Go Bearah! Go Cheesewring!
Well done to our Student Leaders 2023-2024 - this is a crucial ambassador role in supporting the students, staff and upholding the school values - we are very proud of you both!

It has been a really successful start to the new academic year. It was fantastic to see the children so enthusiastic on return and they have settled into their new classes really well.
In addition to the learning on site at school, this year we are busy planning clubs, trips, residentials and wider curriculum opportunities. Please bear with us as we set all of this up and we will share details with you once these have been firmed up. We will offer Bikeability again this year in Reception, Year 4 and Year 6 as well as swimming in Year 4.
Full details of these will be communicated to parents across the year and we look forward to the learning at school and beyond.
We will soon be looking at elections for our Team Captains and Student Leaders 2023-2024 – Miss Kite will share further information with the year 6 parents/carers and we will hold a whole school election as we did last year. These ambassadors will support many things including enabling students in sharing their ideas for enhancing life at St Cleer.
As well as these ambassadors every class has an ‘I wish my teacher knew box…’ and there is an ‘I wish my headteacher knew…’ box outside my office for children to add thoughts, ideas and questions across the year. We always take their ideas into consideration.
Our focus value for assembly this half term is ‘Be creative…just like a chameleon!’
We are looking forward to welcoming you all back for the new academic year.
