What a Busy First Week Back!

What a fantastic and busy first week back at school we have had! It has been wonderful to welcome everyone back and see the children settling into their learning, enjoying new topics and getting stuck into lots of exciting activities across the curriculum.

In English, we have started a new unit all about sentence building, using the brilliant story of Traction Man as our inspiration. The children have been exploring the story and beginning to think about how we can build interesting sentences, use exciting vocabulary and develop our writing skills. We are looking forward to seeing where our Traction Man adventures take us!

In Maths, we have continued to develop our understanding of addition and subtraction. We have been looking carefully at finding the difference between two numbers and exploring different ways to solve problems. The children have been practising their mathematical thinking and explaining how they work out their answers.

Our PE lessons have been full of energy and creativity this week! We have been focusing on dance, using our imaginations and pretending to be different cats. The children had lots of fun exploring how to move their bodies in different ways, creating movements and thinking about how they could express themselves through dance.

During Kixx, the children have begun learning some new hockey skills. They have been introduced to the basics of the game and started practising how to control and move the ball using a hockey stick. There has been lots of enthusiasm as we begin developing our teamwork and coordination!

In Art, we have been learning about the famous artist Pablo Picasso. The children have started by creating their own cover pages inspired by Picasso, exploring his name and getting ready to discover more about his artwork and unique artistic style.

Our Science learning this week has focused on animals. We have been beginning to explore the animal world, thinking about different types of animals and what makes them special. There will be lots more exciting discoveries as we continue with this topic!

In Geography, we have started learning about the United Kingdom. Our first challenge was to identify and name the four countries that make up the UK: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. We have been building our knowledge of the places around us and learning more about our country.

Finally, in RE, we have begun exploring the Christmas story and thinking about its importance. We have also started practising our nativity songs, which is getting us all into the festive spirit! We are already looking forward to sharing our Christmas performance with you.

It has certainly been a busy first week back, filled with lots of learning, creativity, movement and fun. We are so proud of how hard the children have worked and can't wait to see what the coming weeks have in store!

Week beginning 12th October

What a busy and exciting week we have had! The children have been working incredibly hard and enjoying lots of fun, hands-on learning experiences across the curriculum.

In English, we have been learning all about sentences and how to identify the subject, verb and leftover information. The children have been developing their understanding of how sentences are put together and thinking carefully about the different parts that help to make a sentence.

In Science, we have been exploring our five senses and discovering how we use them to learn about the world around us. We put our senses to the test by tasting a variety of different foods, including lemons, chocolate, chilli, apples and crisps! The children enjoyed exploring the different flavours, describing what they could taste and discussing whether the foods were sweet, sour, salty or spicy. There were some very interesting reactions, particularly to the lemon and chilli!

During ICT, we have been developing our research skills by searching for information about animals eating. The children explored how to find information online and discovered more about different animals and their eating habits.

In Maths, we have been busy practising our number bonds and doubles. The children have been working hard to recognise number pairs that make a given number and to recall doubles facts. We have been using a range of activities to help us become more confident with our number knowledge and develop our mental maths skills.

Our Forest School session was another highlight of the week! We put our knot-tying skills to the test as we practised tying things together, using our hands-on skills and working collaboratively. We then enjoyed gathering around the fire to toast marshmallows. The children loved this special outdoor experience and had a wonderful time developing their practical skills while enjoying the fresh air.

To finish off our week, we had the lovely opportunity to sing in church as part of the Harvest Festival celebrations. The children did a fantastic job and it was wonderful to come together as a school community to celebrate the harvest. We were so proud of them as they shared their singing with everyone.

Week beginning 5th October 2026

This week, we have had another exciting and productive week of learning across all our subjects.

In English, we have been learning about the different parts of a sentence. We focused on identifying subjects, verbs, and the leftover words that add extra detail and meaning. The children enjoyed exploring how these different elements work together to create complete and interesting sentences. They practised spotting subjects and verbs in their reading and used this knowledge to improve their own writing.

In Maths, we have been developing our number skills using part-whole models and systematic number bonds. The children worked hard to break numbers into different parts and find patterns within number bonds. These activities helped to strengthen their understanding of number relationships and improve their confidence when solving calculations.

In Music, we had lots of fun taking part in rhythm-based games. The children listened carefully to different beats and patterns, developing their timing and coordination while working collaboratively with their classmates. It was wonderful to see everyone joining in with enthusiasm and enjoying the musical challenges.

In Design and Technology (DT), we explored a variety of fruits by looking closely at their appearance, texture, smell, and taste. The children then had the opportunity to taste a delicious smoothie and discuss the different flavours they could identify. This hands-on experience encouraged them to think about healthy eating and where our food comes from.

During ICT, the children practised their digital skills by learning how to edit pictures. They explored different tools to crop, resize, and enhance images, showing great creativity and care as they produced their own edited pictures.

In PE, we focused on developing our coordination and ball skills. Using rackets, the children challenged themselves to balance cones and beanbags while moving carefully around the space. They demonstrated excellent perseverance and concentration as they practised controlling equipment and improving their physical skills.

In PSHE, we discussed the importance of making positive choices and considered how our actions can affect the people around us. The children thought carefully about different scenarios and explored the consequences that can result from our decisions. These discussions helped to develop their understanding of responsibility, kindness, and respect.

Finally, in History, we reviewed all the fascinating facts we have learned about the Wright brothers and their important achievements in aviation. The children reflected on how their determination, creativity, and hard work led to one of the most significant inventions in history, changing the way people travel around the world.

Week beginning 28th September 2026

Another Wonderful Week of Learning!

We have had another fantastic week at school, and the children have continued to amaze us with their enthusiasm, curiosity and positive attitudes towards their learning.

A particular highlight of the week was our trip to Carnglaze Caverns yesterday. The children were wonderful representatives of our school and made us incredibly proud. They listened carefully, followed instructions and showed great excitement and curiosity throughout the trip. It was lovely to see them enjoying the experience together and making some special memories.

Please remember to check your child’s book bag this evening, as they will be bringing home letters containing important information about the pantomime in December. We are very excited about this upcoming event and hope the children will enjoy the opportunity to take part in such a special festive experience.

Maths

In Maths this week, we have been developing our understanding of numbers to 20. The children have been practising ordering numbers and thinking carefully about which numbers are bigger or smaller. We have also been comparing different amounts and using mathematical language to explain our thinking. The children have enjoyed using practical resources and talking about how they know which amount is greater or smaller.

English

In English, we have been revisiting our learning about verbs. The children have been identifying verbs in sentences and discussing how verbs tell us about an action or what someone or something is doing. We have been working hard to use our growing understanding of verbs when speaking and writing, and it has been wonderful to see the children becoming more confident in recognising and using them.

History

Our History learning has been particularly exciting this week as we continued our exploration of flight and the Wright brothers. The children designed and created their very own paper aeroplanes, thinking carefully about how they could make their planes fly. They enjoyed testing their creations and beginning to think like inventors, just as the Wright brothers did when they were experimenting with flight.

ICT

In ICT, the children have been learning more about using an iPad to take photographs. They were challenged to take three pictures, thinking carefully about what they wanted to capture and how they could use the device appropriately. This gave the children an opportunity to develop their confidence with technology while also beginning to understand how photographs can be used to record and communicate information.

Music

In Music, we have been learning about tempo and how the speed of music can change. The children followed instructions carefully and explored how music can be fast or slow. They enjoyed responding to different tempos and developing their listening skills while working together as a class.

PSHE

During PSHE, we have been thinking about being responsible and what responsibility looks like in our classroom. We discussed the importance of looking after our belongings, making sensible choices, following classroom rules and helping others. The children shared some lovely ideas about how they can show responsibility every day and considered how their actions can help to make our classroom a happy and positive place for everyone.

Well done to all of the children for another brilliant week. We are incredibly proud of the effort they are putting into their learning and the kind, caring and responsible attitudes they continue to show. We hope everyone has a lovely weekend and gets plenty of rest ready for another exciting week ahead!
