Online Learning 17.12.21

Hello 2W,

It's the last day of term - yay!

If you're self-isolating, here is the learning for today:

Phonics
We are looking at the 'i-e' sound. Watch this video to find out more: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9JSTYL7vyc Then practice your sounds and have a go at writing words with the 'i-e' sound in (bike, like, Mike, mile, pike, lime, time). I've also attached a sheet to do for this.

Free Readers
We are revising 'ing' and 'ed' suffixes. There are sheets attached below for this - choose the level right for you. One star is easiest, three stars is hardest.

English
We are looking at conjunctions again - this time we're looking at 'or' and 'because'. Below explains how to use these conjunctions:
Or - Presents an alternative or a choice: Would you rather read a book or watch a good TV show?
Because - Explains something: My brother is grumpy because he has to do his homework.
Have a go at writing sentences using 'or' and 'because'.

Maths
We are looking at the 2 times table again. There is some 2 times table colouring attached (first sheet). If children are on their 5s, they can have a go at the 5 times table sheet as well. There are also some doubling challenges to have a go at. Good luck!

Art
I've attached below some Christmas crafts to try at home. This will really help children with their fine motor skills and creativity!

Have a lovely Christmas holidays and take a well deserved break,
Miss Wright

Online Learning 15.12.21

Hello 2W,

It's been lovely to see so many children back at school. For those still self-isolating, please see the learning for today:

Phonics
We are looking at the 'ow' sound ('ow' for 'cow'). Please watch this video to find out more: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01q0py1/alphablocks-series-3-22-how-now-brown-cow Then practice other sounds here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3HRX2ywbog I've also attached an 'ow' sheet to have a go at.

Free Readers
You are adding the suffix 'ing' to words. There is a sheet below to practice. Remember - some words you add 'ing', some you need to double the consonant and add 'ing', and others you need to drop the 'e' and add 'ing'.

English
We are looking at capital letters again. This time, we're focusing on making sure our capital letters are bigger than our lowercase letters. We are also recapping which lowercase letters match which capital letters. I've attached a sheet for this. Once this is done, can you write a sentence in your fanciest writing, making sure that your capital letters are BIGGER than your lowercase letters? I've attached a handwriting sheet to use if you want.

Maths
We are looking at doubling and the 2 times table. If you don't feel confident, stick with doubling, using the ladybird's sheet. You can also use a mirror to double objects. If you're feeling more confident, have a go at the 2 times table. The video link is here: https://vimeo.com/490420447

History
We are looking at how Christmas has changed over the years. Can you match the Christmas toys to old and new?

Art
We are making snowflakes out of paper. Please find attached instructions on how to do this. It's quite tricky!

Take care,
Miss Wright

Well done for being so adaptable and doing your online learning! It was lovely to see you on teams.

Our next teams meeting is Thursday 9th December at 11am. If you have nativity costumes, please wear them. It will be great to see them! We are learning the 'aw' sound. Watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xvdbR6g060
Then have a go at our speed sounds here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3HRX2ywbog Choose which level is right for you. Most of you (yellow, blue and grey) need to start the video at 2:20 (set 2 and 3). Can you spot our 'aw' sound when you're practicing?

Online Learning 08.12.21

Good afternoon,

As you are aware, we are moving onto online learning from tomorrow. Year 2 will be using a combination of teams and the blog. We will not be using class dojo for online learning. However, we will still be able to see messages sent via Class Dojo.

Wednesday’s learning is as follows:

Phonics:
Today we are looking at the ‘igh’ sound. Please watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYCR2RZ4ZYY Children can then have a go at the worksheets attached or writing words with ‘igh’ in (night, sigh, sight, light, might, right, flight, knight). For one sheet, the children need to spot the real and 'alien' words. For the other sheet, the children need to find the works with the 'igh' sound in.

Free Readers:
Instead of phonics, free readers are focusing on the difference between 'a' and 'an'. Remember that 'an' goes before vowel sounds (a, e, i, o, u) and 'a' goes before consonant sounds. There is a sheet attached for this.

Spellings:
This week's spellings are: door, floor, again, wild, children, climb, parents, most, only, both

English:
Continue to write a diary entry about ‘Elf on the Shelf’. If children have finished these, they can write the diaries up in neat or add to them with other days.

Maths:
Children are learning about multiplication and division. Please use the worksheet attached and watch the video here: https://vimeo.com/480212026. There are also greater depth questions as a challenge for children. If children finish this, they can practice their times tables. Most children are on their 2x tables. Some have moved onto their 5x tables.

RE:
In school we would have been doing our nativity practice. As we are unable to now, I have attached some work on the nativity to do instead.

Teams:
There will be a class check in at 11am tomorrow (Wednesday 8th December) on Teams. We are in the process of setting up online learning on Microsoft Teams. Some children don’t have logins for teams yet. These are in the process of being set up. The link to St Cleer 2W class is here: https://teams.microsoft.com/l/channel/19%3a9h7D_5BshhTEKw18bYLfRTXzC0cdTllyjLOMTrcSiOk1%40thread.tacv2/General?groupId=aaae28b1-5c7d-4cbd-b38c-36de3449bfc2&tenantId=52326bff-ba8a-4d28-a44d-08290d1f73de

Learning in 2W 06.12.21

Hello 2W,

It's been a lovely week at St Cleer.

In English we have finished writing our stories based on 'Nobot - The Robot With No Bottom'. This week we are writing diaries based on 'Elf On A Shelf'. This is an independent task - can the children think of ideas for what the elf could get up to? If children are self-isolating and are well enough, please can children do this. In school, we will be thinking of ideas, planning, writing, editing and doing a best copy so this unit would normally take 5 - 7 days.

In maths, we have been finishing off our unit on money and are going to start on times tables for 2s, 5s and 10s. Please can children self-isolating focus on their times tables if they are well enough. There are lots of websites where children can practice - Times Table Rockstars, https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button I've also attached some White Rose resources to this.

In science, we have continued to look at materials. Today we have been sorting materials into natural and man-made categories. Please find attached a sheet for this. There is also a video children can watch here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/z2bdjxs

In PE, we have been focusing on fundamental skills like catching and throwing, balancing, running and more.

In computing, we have been looking at changing fonts, adding pictures to a document and typing skills. We have been looking at making posters. Children can make a poster at home on an iPad or computer for this if possible.

In music and RE, the children have been practicing their nativity songs and their performance on the stage. Children at home can practice singing nativity songs and read about the nativity. I've attached a PowerPoint for this and an activity to do if children wish to.

I will update the blog soon with more activities over the week.

All the best,
Miss Wright

Reminders
- Thursday 9th December 2021 - Nativity - This will not be in person now. We are working on the details of how this will happen so please bear with us. We will provide more information soon. It will likely be a remote nativity on video.
