by Carmel Alberts

This week we have covered a wide range of exciting subjects and learned many new things. In art, we explored the life and work of the artist Dora Carrington, studying her unique style and the influence she had on the world of art.

In cricket, we focused on both batting and bowling techniques, learning how to improve our skills and understanding the strategies behind the game.

In science, we studied seasonal changes and how the weather can vary throughout the year. We also had the opportunity to create our own wind socks, helping us to observe wind direction and speed in a hands-on way. During PSHE lessons, we explored the importance of healthy eating and how the right foods can help our bodies stay strong and energised.

In music, we practiced singing, learning new songs and developing our vocal skills. In maths, we delved into place value, focusing on numbers up to 50, which helped us to strengthen our understanding of number patterns and how to compare and order numbers accurately. In English, we worked on using adjectives to describe the desert, learning how to create vivid and detailed descriptions that painted pictures with words.

Finally, in geography, we studied the nomadic cultures of Mongolia, learning about their lifestyle, traditions, and the challenges they face in such a unique environment.

Pre School   Week 2!

by Rebecca Whitty

A very busy week two!

What a week it has been at school! From celebrating St. Piran’s Day to enjoying the sunshine in our outdoor area, there has been so much to look forward to.

We kicked off the week by celebrating St. Piran’s Day, a special day for Cornwall! Our school was filled with excitement as we all came together in the morning to sing traditional Cornish songs on the playground.
The fun didn’t stop there! In the morning, we got our hands dirty making Cornish pasties. With the help of our teachers and the very kind Will from Ginsters, we mixed, folded and crimped our yummy pasties.

Thursday was another highlight with World Book Day! The school was buzzing with excitement as everyone arrived dressed as their favorite book characters. From Mog to Matilda, we had a range of creative costumes. It was amazing to see so many of our friends dressed up as characters from the books we love.

As if the week wasn’t already packed with fun, we were lucky enough to have some beautiful sunshine to enjoy! Our outdoor area was the perfect place to play and soak up the sun. We spent time running, playing games, and just enjoying the fresh air. It was so nice to take a break from the classroom and play outside, especially after all the busy events of the week.

In phonics we learnt the sound 'a' a a apple!
In maths we are looking at representing number 1-5 can you count 4 objects and then find the number 4? have a go at home and let us know.

Come back next week to see what else we get up to. We have special visitors coming in to see us!

Miss Whitty, Miss Ronald and Mrs Evans.

This week has been filled with lots of exciting activities and learning experiences! We had a wonderful day celebrating World Book Day, where the children wore fantastic costumes and took part in a fun and lively catwalk. It was so wonderful to see the creativity and imagination that went into each outfit. The children also had the opportunity to design their own bookmarks, which they got to take home, and create a beautiful book cover, showcasing their artistic talents. To top it all off, we spent time sharing and enjoying lots of wonderful stories together, sparking plenty of discussions about our favourite books and characters.

In Maths, we continued to build on our subtraction skills. The children have been working hard to understand the concept of subtracting numbers.

In RE, we delved into the teachings of the Qu'ran. The children learned about its significance in Islam and how it guides the lives of Muslims around the world. They asked thoughtful questions and engaged in meaningful discussions about respect, faith, and understanding different cultures.

In English, we focused on describing Zahra using adjectives and expanded noun phrases. The children used their creativity to come up with vivid descriptions, learning how to make their writing more detailed and interesting. They really enjoyed exploring the different ways to describe a character.

On Wednesday, we had a special treat when we made pasties in celebration of St Piran's Day. With the help of Ginsters, the children got to roll up their sleeves and try their hand at making this traditional Cornish dish. The pasties were delicious, and it was a fun and educational way to learn about Cornish culture and traditions.

It has truly been a week full of fun, learning, and celebration, and we can’t wait to see what next week brings!

Depending on what you read - some accounts of St Piran speak of a man who enjoyed being at the centre of the community. He was born in Ireland but was banished by the King of Munster across the Celtic Sea. He amazingly managed to survive and landed on the beautiful North Cornwall coast and made Cornwall his home. As we joined together as a community we celebrated that we have each made Cornwall our home - some of us born here, some of born elsewhere in England and some of us born elsewhere in the world. We are all welcome and have been lucky to make Cornwall our home and St Cleer our community. Thank you celebrating with us and Gool Peran Lowen to all!

Welcome back to Pre school.

We have been very busy in our first week back to Pre school!

We welcomed Mrs Evans to Pre school on a Monday and Tuesday morning.

Our topic this half term is 'People who help us' and this week we have been learning all about fire fighters, and how they help us. We created beautiful fire pictures using tin  foil to create flames.  Next week we are going to learn about dentists and oral health. We are hoping to have a visit from a dental nurse.

This week we have also  started to learn our sounds! We follow the RWI nursery program. We follow the same phonics scheme as the school ready for September. This week we looked at 'm' Maisie mountain mountain. Everyone loved this. We also thought of a few words that begin with the sound 'm' - mummy, moon, mouse, monster, mermaid, milk. How clever are they?!

Speaking, of very clever children. This week the very clever super star children have started to learn to write their names. We looked at how we hold our pens and where we start to form each sound. Well done everyone. In a few weeks time I will be sending out a copy for you to have at home.

We have also been loving the beautiful sunshine and been outside in our outside area. If anyone has any plants we could plant we would be very grateful.

Come back next week to see what exciting things we get up to. World book day, St Piranis day and lots lots more!

Miss Whitty, Miss Ronald and Mrs Evans.

Welcome back to Spring 2! We hope you all had a wonderful and refreshing half term break. It's great to see everyone back, ready to dive into another exciting and engaging term of learning and discovery. Attached below, you will find an overview of the coverage for this term, which outlines all the fantastic activities and lessons we have planned.

This week, we kicked off our learning with the story of Zahra, a young girl who lives in an African village. The children have done a fantastic job sequencing the events of the story, and they came up with some thoughtful and imaginative questions they’d like to ask Zahra if they could meet her. It's been a wonderful start to our exploration of different cultures and communities around the world.

In Maths, we’ve continued our focus on subtraction, building on the skills we’ve already learned. The children are becoming more confident with subtracting numbers and solving word problems.

In ICT, the children have been working on creating their own flip books, learning the basic principles of animation. They have enjoyed experimenting with this fun and creative way of bringing pictures to life, and we are excited to see how they progress in understanding the magic of animation.

In PSHE, we filled in our treasure chest of success, reflecting on our individual achievements. It was wonderful to see how much the children have accomplished in different areas, from swimming to gymnastics and many other activities. It was a proud moment for everyone as we celebrated all their hard work and personal growth.

In RE, we delved into the story of Mount Hira, exploring its significance. The children then expressed their understanding and thoughts by drawing beautiful pictures using oil pastels. It was a great opportunity to combine learning with creativity.

Finally, the children thoroughly enjoyed their PE lesson this week. They participated with enthusiasm, developing their physical skills in a fun and engaging way.

Overall, it’s been a fantastic start to the term, and we’re looking forward to all the exciting things we’ll be learning and experiencing together in the coming weeks.

Learning in Spring 1

We learnt about the history of our local area with a focus on Mining. We set out to answer the questions "why is mining important to Cornish people and what impact has mining had on Cornwall?" The pupils demonstrated their curiosity while learning about out local area and as a celebration of all the work, we all took a trip to Minions! We met Iain Rowe - an expert guide for mining around the area and he took us all around the Phoenix United mine. He was so knowledgeable about the sites, jobs and local history and he even enabled us to see the house of the mine owner and explain the process of bidding for pitches in the mines.

After touring the mine site - we stopped for a pasty on Minions village green before heading down the old mining railway track and heading home. We just had enough time for a photo opportunity at Trethevy Quoit before heading back to school. We walked a long way - but it was a great day out! Big thank you to Will from Ginsters who helped us make out pasties, and Iain from Cornwall Heritage Trust for all their help in making this trip possible!

We were lucky enough to participle in a Book Trust Represent's virtual author visit with Benjamin Dean, author of The Boy Who Fell From The Sky. Benjamin discussed his motivations for being a writer and his creative process which led to really interesting conversations within the class. His book recommendations also spurred on our reading!

In English we took part in an international poetry competition called "Flyku" where we composed our own Haiku's designed our own paper planes - which we also had a go a flying!

In art we have developed our portrait skills using a range of materials.

The fantastic class even managed to squeeze some time in the snow between their learning.

Flyku

As part of a national event to celebrate short-form poetry, our class took part in a Flyku competition.

The challenge was simple - to create an original and inspiring Haiku poem and then present it in the form of a paper aeroplane.

The winning entries will get the chance to take their winning Flyku onto a plane and to fly their paper planes at altitude!  What a great prize!!

We really enjoyed the creativity of writing the Haiku poems - and we followed the instructions carefully to create our paper aeroplanes.  Most of all - we loved testing them when we were finished!

Fusce tincidunt ac urna in faucibus. Sed tristique velit eu rhoncus aliquam. Curabitur mauris nulla, maximus dapibus tempus non mattis at urna. Sed et dapibus eros, eu venenatis est. Donec scelerisque interdum odio, vitae suscipit eros laoreet sed. Sed blandit nulla elit. Donec eget porta sem.

This week in Maths, we have been learning all about doubling. We practiced doubling numbers and explored how it can be used in various real-life situations. It was fun seeing how doubling simple numbers can lead to larger numbers and then we looked at doubling plus one!

In English, we worked on innovating the story of The Tiger Who Came to Tea. We got to be creative and change parts of the story, adding our own characters. Some of us even came up with new endings for the tiger’s visit! It was exciting to see how different everyone's stories turned out, and we shared our ideas with the class.

In History, we took part in a learning forum to discuss everything we had learned about schools in the past. We looked at how classrooms, teachers, and learning materials have changed over time. After that, we had a Victorian school morning, where we experienced what it was like to attend school in Victorian times. It was so interesting to see how different the rules and lessons were back then!

In Science, we explored the seasons and the changes that happen in nature throughout the year. One of the things we focused on was how trees respond to the different seasons. We learned about how they grow, change their leaves, and prepare for winter. It was great to observe how nature adapts and evolves throughout the year.

Thank you to Mr Lewis for leading our assemblies this week. We were set challenges across the day to explore who our trusted adults are, our top tips for staying safe online and what to do if we are playing a game and we receive messages/click bait. We also thoroughly enjoyed 3/4A's rap - 'Stay Safe, Safe'! The children in KS2 in particular were very knowledgeable of what they can do to keep themselves safe online and all of KS1 and EYFS were able to share who their trusted adults are and how they help them stay safe. An email has gone out to parents with more information about online safety to help at home too.

In PSHE, we have been learning about dreams and goals and how important it is to set stepping stones to achieve success. We've discussed how setting smaller, manageable goals can help us work towards bigger dreams and how persistence is key to overcoming challenges. We've also explored different strategies that can help us stay motivated along the way.

In Maths, we've recently started learning about addition. We've been practicing using number lines to help us understand how numbers increase and how to solve addition problems more easily. It's been really helpful because the number line allows us to visualise the process and double-check our answers.

In PE, we've been working with the gymnastics frame and practicing our jumping skills. The gymnastics frame has allowed us to explore different movements, and we've been learning how to balance, climb, and jump safely. It's been fun to challenge ourselves and see how our skills improve.

In History, we explored classrooms now and in the past. We compared how classrooms have changed over time, looking at old-fashioned desks and how lessons were taught many years ago. It's fascinating to think about the differences in technology, teaching methods, and even the layout of the rooms. We also discussed how these changes affect how we learn today.

In English, we've been working on sequencing the story of The Tiger Who Came to Tea. We've focused on understanding the order of events in the story and practicing how to retell it clearly.

This week in Religious Education (RE), the children have been exploring the culture and beliefs of Muslims. They had the opportunity to learn about the Arabic language and its significance in the Muslim world. The students also studied the work of the renowned Muslim artist Ali Caligraff, discovering how he uses calligraphy and art to express his faith. This helped broaden the children's understanding of Islamic art and culture.

In Mathematics, the children focused on plotting numbers on a number line, specifically ranging from 10 to 20. They practiced identifying the position of numbers on the line and explored how numbers increase and decrease.

In English, the class have been researching dolphins. The children gathered information and created a list of interesting facts, writing bullet points to summarise their findings.

In Design and Technology (DT), the children have been working on developing their own pouch designs. They have explored different materials and considered what would be best for creating a functional and stylish pouch. The child have been putting their creativity to the test as they plan and sketch their ideas.

In Music, the class is learning a vibrant song about rainbows. The children have been practicing the melody and lyrics, enjoying the cheerful tune. Additionally, in their singing assembly, the children have been introduced to Cornish songs, allowing them to experience and appreciate a different regional musical tradition.

Finally, in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), the children have been learning how to format text, including making fonts bold and italic. This skill will help them when creating presentations and documents in the future, giving them a better understanding of how to present information clearly and effectively.

It's been a week full of learning, creativity, and fun across a variety of subjects!
